June 26 The Paradox of ADHD:Extreme Strengths Paired with Stunning Weaknesses - Don Baker, MA, LMHC

Is the Paradox of Your Diagnosis Tripping You Up?

This presentation is based on a section of David Giwerc’s book “Permission to Proceed”
    Learning Objectives:
    1. Why it’s valuable to define, understand and apply “paradox” (anything that exhibits an
apparently contradictory nature) to our diagnosis

    2. Clarify what ignites your paradoxical disparities of behavior, performance, and ability

    3. Apply this understanding to your life and tip the balance of your focus away from what you aren’t doing well/right to what is automatic/easy/innate
“Outstanding strengths paired with debilitating weaknesses are the hallmark of ADHD. Strengths are closely tied to interest; weaknesses are closely tied to boredom or lack of interest. People with ADHD most often exhibit their strengths in situations that hold their interest and automatically engage them. By contrast, their weaknesses will be exacerbated by situations that are uninteresting to them.”
-From “Permission to Proceed” by David Giwerc
